I began my career in law enforcement in 1992 as a Reserve Police Officer and was then hired as a full-time Officer for a municipality. I graduated from Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1994 and served in numerous roles during my tenure. Positions I held include patrol officer, narcotics officer with the South East Iowa Drug Task Force, supervisory officer, field training officer, tactical team leader, and Asst. Chief of Police. In 2002 I began a new phase of my career with Federal Law Enforcement and I graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. I held positions as an officer and was later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. I was also promoted to the position of Training Coordinator and I was responsible for training and documentation of training for many officers. I completed a term in a temporary position as Interim Chief of Police overseeing the operations of a Federal Police Agency for one year.

During my tenure as Training Coordinator I became involved with active threat training and I became a certified ALICE Instructor. I was tasked with developing a training system, and policies and procedures, to implement active threat training within a Federal Agency. The program was successful and became the outline utilized by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. I trained a large portion of staff for VA Central Iowa, and I also conducted active threat training outside the VA at universities, schools, businesses, and churches. I retired from law enforcement in 2014 and I currently conduct active threat training as Trinity Active Threat Consulting. I linked my training program with Innovative Rescue Solutions and together we offer services to assess safety and security, develop customized training for staff, assist with policies and procedures, and we assist with assessment of liability coverage and mitigation procedures.
