School shootings continue to occur, and we are seeing similar results including large numbers of victims. One of the reasons for this is that schools are not learning from the mistakes made in previous active threat situations. Many schools continue to utilize “lock down” procedures that tend to provide the shooter with more victims. Across the country there is still resistance to training faculty and students some simple techniques to escape, hide, and how to fight as a last resort effort in active threat situations. Our training program is designed to change the mindset from the “victim mentality” to the “survivor mentality” by training faculty and students that doing something is better than doing nothing to survive an active threat situation. We train utilizing lecture, PowerPoint presentations, and “hands on” training with “live” scenario based training. This allows faculty and students to practice the techniques and demonstrates to them that the techniques work.
